Configuring IIS to use SSL

You can set up Secure Socket Layer (SSL) on the Internet Information Services (IIS) web server to improve the security of your communications.

You must first create a certificate request and submit it to a Certificate Authority (CA). After the request has been processed by the CA, you can issue and download the certificate. Finally, install the certificate on each website registered with IIS.

You must also enable secure bindings for all SSL-enabled web sites, to prevent unauthorized use of the certificate.

For more information about obtaining certificates, creating SSL bindings, and verifying SSL bindings, see the “IIS Manager” section of “How to Set Up SSL on IIS 7” at http://www.iis.net/learn/manage/configuring-security/how-to-set-up-ssl-on-iis.
